The unmissable museums and cultural visits in the Drôme

Valence Romans Tourisme's Groups, Conventions & Seminars Department can take your group on a tour of the Drôme's must-see museums.
visite musée de Valence

The Valence Museum of Art and Archaeology

It's a new-generation museum. The renovation-extension, entrusted to the Jean-Paul Philippon architectural studio, combines heritage enhancement of the former episcopal palace with a contemporary extension, highlighted in particular by the transparency of a belvedere offering a breathtaking view of the Rhône and the Ardèche and Drôme hillsides. The collections offer a wide panorama, from regional prehistory to contemporary art.

The Armenian Heritage Centre

In 2005, the City of Valence created the Armenian Heritage Center, a place open to the world. Discover a sensitive and immersive exhibition. A journey through time to understand the history of the Armenians who came from the Ottoman Empire, and the challenges they face today.

visite du palais idéal du facteur cheval

"Le Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval" in Hauterives

Unique in the world, the Palais Idéal has inspired artists for over a century. Independent of any artistic movement, built without any architectural rules, the Palais Idéal was admired by the Surrealists and recognized as a work of art brut. In 1969, André Malraux, then Minister of Culture, classified it as a Monument Historique in the category of naïve art.

The Romans shoe museum

The Romans shoe museum will take your group on a voyage of discovery of that universal object, the shoe. This magnificent collection is presented in a prestigious setting: the former Visitation convent and its landscaped gardens, listed as a historic monument. All forms of footwear are on display, from the oldest to the most contemporary, from the most classic to the most extravagant and the most exotic, not forgetting the creations of famous bootmakers past and present. More than 16,500 collector's items from antiquity to the present day, representing 4,000 years of history, are on display in this magnificent building.
